TAKE ACTION WHILE STAYING 'SAFER AT HOME'
As we continue to stay "safer at home," we wanted to share resources and opportunities for you to continue to show up for justice during this time. As members of Throop Unitarian Universalist, we answer the call for social and environmental justice and stand on the side of love. Despite our physical distance right now, we can still make a difference and show up for love, for peace, and for compassion.

COVID-19 UPDATE FROM REV. TERA AND THE BOARD
March 13, 2020
Dear Throop Community,
We are holding you all in our hearts right now. Years ago, a Throop member said, “Throop is a place that knows how to love,” and it is that sense of love for each of you and our larger community that is at the heart of this letter.
We have decided to cancel Throop worship services, programs and activities for the next two weeks. This decision was in some ways hard to make, because we know how important it is for us to gather together as a community. And yet, we need to take every precaution to keep the most vulnerable among us healthy and safe.
As we navigate these uncertain times, your emotional and spiritual well-being is important to us. Even though we are not meeting in person, we want to find ways to stay connected. We are using a free web-conferencing platform called Zoom. You can join by video or by phone. The Zoom page has multiple tutorials to help you use it.
Rev. Tera and Liz will host the following gatherings by Zoom, which you can access by this link: https://zoom.us/j/4117618851. Or - you can call in by phone: +1-669-900-9128. When prompted, enter meeting ID: 411 761 8851.
We want to offer other forms of support during this time, as well. If you are hesitant to go out because of potential health risks, a member of our Pastoral Care Team can pick-up groceries or other essentials for you. Please contact Rev. Tera who will connect you to a pastoral care team member who will help.
Additionally, we know many people may face financial insecurity at this time. If you have financial resources to share, please consider making a donation to the Ministers’ Discretionary Fund. This fund is used to help Throop members who need help in meeting basic needs, such as rent, utilities, or groceries.
Lastly, you can keep up to date on the latest health guidelines and tips at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the World Health Organization.
We will continue to do our best to ensure this community feels the love during this difficult time. Rev. Tera, Liz, and other Throop leaders are here to connect with, to ask questions of, and to lean on. We pray for the continued health and safety for all those who may be impacted by this virus.
With love,
Rev. Tera Klein, Intern Minister Liz Murphy, and Board of Directors

A centering poem for this time, by Lynn Ungar
Pandemic
What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath--
the most sacred of times?
Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling.
Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world
different than it is.
Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.
And when your body has become still,
reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.
(You could hardly deny it now.)
Know that our lives
are in one another’s hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.
Promise this world your love--
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.
